"if you don't stop trying my patience, lyssa, i swe--"
"you'll do what, exactly? idle threats bore me, alex."
"everything bores you," he shot back. "you'd do well to take things more seriously."
she fell silent and turned away to stare out of the window, although the world outside held her attention for a short time only. there was always fun to be had where alex's temper was concerned.
"i hear melissa's been doing well for herself since the divorce."
he dealt her a glare that made even lyssa flinch, "you heard correct."
"meaning?"
"the whore has herself a new toy. possibly even several."
alex seethed - his sister quite evidently delighted in this information, and she was doing it just to piss him off.
"i'm surprised you haven't invited them over yet. show there's no hard feelings and such."
the canary shifted in its cage by the door, drawing lyssa's attention for a moment before she continued to torment her brother.
"i'd rather not involve myself in another petty row with that street walker, thanks all the same."
"oh?" she rang her finger along the rim of her wine glass, "what about the children? i don't believe you've seen them for, how long? nine months?"
the table jerked up and out as alex pushed it from inbetween them. lyssa froze. it wasn't quite the reaction she'd expected.
